Mexico president, courts spar over legal loopholes | The Associated ...

Mexico's executive and judicial branches are denouncing each other over a judge's decision to release a former official of Mexico's electricity utility. The corruption case was prosecuted in the United States more quickly and with greater rigor than it was in Mexico.

The case of Nestor Moreno has proved an embarrassment to Mexico and a source of frustration for President Felipe Calderon.

A judge recently allowed Moreno out of prison and Calderon says he's tired of judges letting suspects walk.

The federal judiciary council took the unusual step Tuesday of publicly responding to the complaints, saying the release was legal.

The council says unfounded criticism of the courts "threatens the nation's stability."
