Bestselling author Beverly Cleary drew directly from her upbringing in Portland as inspiration for her beloved children?s books. It was in the halls of her elementary school and on neighborhood streets where she met the characters of Henry Huggins, Ramona and older sister Beezus.

A piece of literary and Portland history, Cleary?s childhood home was recently listed for $362,000. Located at 3340 NE Hancock St, Portland, OR 97212, the turn-of-the-century residence was built in 1910. Cleary moved into the Grant Park neighborhood home in 1925 at age 6.

Typical of most early 20th-century homes, the bungalow has hardwood floors, coved ceilings and crown molding. A giant porch graces the front of the house; at the rear, there is a deck, low-maintenance landscaping and a vegetable garden.

Measuring 1,222 square feet, the house has 2 bedrooms on the main floor and another on the lower level. An updated kitchen and eat-in nook round out the rest of the home?s features.

Cleary currently lives in Carmel, CA.

The monthly mortgage payment on the home would be $1,291, calculated with current mortgage rates and assuming a 20 percent down payment on a 30-year fixed loan.

Dwell Realty?s Christy Marshall is the listing agent for the home.
