Green River Overlook in the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park, Utah.
Rich Briggs camped overnight and woke before sunrise to photograph the morning light on the sandstone cliffs of Canyonlands National Park in Utah.
Briggs took the photo in early January from the Green River Overlook. The mesa from which the photo was taken is known as the Island in the Sky District.?
"I'd taken that shot a few years ago and wanted to see if I could improve on it," Briggs told TODAY.com. Getting up before dawn, Briggs said, allowed him to "watch all the light change and watch the sun creep down the canyon walls."
