Highest and the longest tunnel-to-tunnel bridge and it is in China. It looks like the Chinese are on a roll. They have some of the best and most creative engineers in the world. On earth and in space we must give the Chinese their props.
The Aizhai Extra Large Suspension Bridge will link two tunnels that are 1,176 metres apart and 365 metres above the Dehang Canyon in Hunan province.
It is a section of the Jishou-Chadong Expressway with is 64-kilometre's long. It is a highway with eight lanes, four going this way and four going that way. There are 18 tunnels total and I would say take your camera and video recorder and anything else you have because this has got to be one of the most gorgeous highways and bridges ever.
Of course, if you have a problem with heights you won't like it, but just think of the hundreds of workers that built it, and all those who will be working to maintain it.
If you have watched Ice Road Truckers you will have seen the episodes where in the off season they have gone to different parts of the world to truck and they always try to pick the worse roads they can find. Well, this was one of them with tailbacks, narrow, tailbacks that have about half an inch to spare on each side when two vehicles are passing, especially when one is a truck. This will make it a whole lot better even though the IRT's will probably shun it for just that reason.
It has 1,888 lights to increase visibility at night which is another drawback to those truckers as optimal visibility to them is about two feet. By the bye, my fave is Lisa and then Rick..
NEWSFLASH!!! I have said before that I will delete a blog when I put a new one on. Since that is proving so difficult to remember I will put in on every blog. I find it quite charming that someone would actually save my blogs so they can repost them. True enough, China is a fasinating country with many accomplishments. It would behoove all of us to try to learn something about other cultures.
