Savannah Bishop Gregory? J. Hartmayer will bless animals at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lafayette? Square adjacent to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
Hartmayer, a Franciscan friar, will host the annual blessing in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi?s love for all creatures. The Feast of St. Francis is celebrated on Oct. 4 but the blessing of the animals is traditionally held on a weekend to allow more pet owners to attend.
It will be Hartmayer?s second blessing since he was named?bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Savannah in 2011.
Also Saturday, the Rev. Mark Ross, pastor, will bless the pets at 10 a.m. at the entrance to St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitefield Ave.
