Minecraft is a game that is best known for being on the of the defining games of the past few years on the ?PC?. Much to the disgust of the purists out there, there is also a version of the game out on the Xbox360. Despite many turning their noses up on the console port of the game when there is a much more complete and regularly updated version on the platform of the PC master race, there are many gamers out there that would have probably never actually gotten into Minecraft if it hasn?t been for the Xbox version, myself included.

The latest patch, called 1.8.2 by it?s friends is the fifth title update to the game and includes a ton of new content for the console. Here is a run down of just some of the major additions and changes:

  • New enemy types added including the Endermen, Silverfish and cave spiders.
  • New Items including?Melons, Pumpkin Seeds, Beef, Chicken(Meat), Rotten Flesh, Iron Bars, Fence Gate, Stone Bricks, Stone Brick Slabs, Stone Brick Stairs, Brick Slabs, Brick Stairs, Ender Pearl, Web, Vines, 10 more Music Discs, Sponge and Chain Armour.
  • The new crafting recipes that go along with the new items.
  • Random generation of towns, strongholds and abandoned mineshafts on the world.
  • The addition of creative mode, giving unlimited items for players who simply want to create.
  • New Biomes.
  • Food bar added.
  • The ability to block in combat.

These are only a few choice features of the update, and they?re obviously the type of things that would interest a filthy casual like myself. If you?d like to see a much more comprehensive guide of what new additions are in the game, then have a look here.

As well as additions, there have been a load of bug fixes that have been game breaking to some players.

Minecraft has been hugely?popular?on the console, it jumping to the top of the XBLA chart almost?immediately?after becoming?available. If you?ve been burned out on Minecraft for a while, now might be a great time to come back to it.
